Celebrate Banderas de Weslaco, Oct. 4
Banderas de Weslaco is a celebration of community that uplifts the American spirit, as well as the spirit of Weslaco. State flags are displayed in the order that the state entered the Union and are a diverse array of colors and symbols. The ceremony will include a presentation by 50 Weslaco ISD school children. Music and food will be provided. All of the U.S. states have been notified of the ceremony. A letter was sent to all the State Governors from Weslaco Mayor Hector Buddy De La Rosa, requesting an official state flag. The city of Weslaco recently received a flag from Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius. Banderas de Weslaco is meant as a statement that Weslaco is going to be a leading community, not only in the region, but also in the State of Texas as a whole, says Hernan Gonzalez, Weslaco EDC Director. Visitors and residents have an opportunity to see our history and a glimpse of what makes this country great.
